A permanent stoma is an unintended consequence that cannot be avoided completely after intersphincteric resection for ultralow rectal cancer. Unfortunately, its incidence and risk factors have been poorly defined. The objective was to determine the cumulative incidence and risk factors of permanent stoma after intersphincteric resection for ultralow rectal cancer. This study was a retrospective analysis of prospectively collected data. This study was conducted at a colorectal surgery referral center. A total of 185 consecutive patients who underwen
