A hypervalent iodine(III)-mediated ring-contractive fluorination reaction of 2-alkylidenecyclobutanol derivatives is presented. The protocol allows the facile synthesis of β-monofluorinated cyclopropanecarbaldehydes via a fluorination/semipinacol rearrangement cascade using nucleophilic Py·HF as the fluorine source.
