We develop relationship patterns early in life, often repeating similar conflicts across friendships and romances without noticing. Psychologist Lester Luborsky’s core conflictual relationship theme (CCRT) helps us identify these patterns by examining our wishes, others’ responses, and our own reactions. For example, a child who feels rejected when seeking attention may grow into an adult who mistrusts partners, repeating the same relational struggles.
