In India, installing a rooftop solar system requires a few basic permissions to ensure safety, grid compatibility, and legal compliance. As per the rooftop solar framework and technical guidelines issued by Ministry of New and Renewable Energy, the first and most important step is applying to your local electricity distribution company (DISCOM).
You must submit an online or offline application for rooftop solar along with system details, capacity, inverter specifications, and basic property documents. After submission, the DISCOM performs a technical feasibility check to confirm whether your local grid can support the proposed solar system.
Once approved, you are allowed to install the solar plant through an authorised installer. After installation, a joint inspection is carried out by the DISCOM to verify safety standards, wiring, and inverter compliance.
For on-grid and hybrid systems, net-metering approval is also mandatory. A bidirectional (net) meter is installed so that the electricity exported to the grid can be adjusted in your monthly bill.
In some cases, commercial or industrial buildings may also require additional electrical safety and structural clearance, depending on local state rules.
At Koshish Solar, we manage the complete approval and net-metering process so that your solar installation is completed smoothly without documentation delays. https://koshishsolar.com/residential-solar/
